Dominick Reyes TKO’s Chris Weidman In First Round At UFC On ESPN 6

Dominick Reyes took less than two minutes to put an end to former middleweight champion Chris Weidman’s light-heavyweight debut tonight at UFC On ESPN 6 thanks to a TKO stoppage after initially dropping him with a single left hand.

Round One:

The 205lb main event is underway in Boston.

Body kick to start for Reyes. Weidman immediately in on a takedown attempt. He’s almost got him down and Reyes is dropping an elbow down on his head.

Weidman does get him down, but he’s quickly back up. Weidman still on him though and working for another takedown against the cage. For now Reyes stays upright.

Reyes eventually manages to get away and they go back to striking. Weidman with a kick. Weidman moves in and Reyes steps back, then lands a poston-like straight left and Weidman is rocked and falls to the mat.

Reyes drops down with a couple of hammerfists that leaves Weidman even more hurt and that’s it, Reyes earns a huge TKO victory at 1.43mins of the first round.

Very tough loss for Weidman here and with five losses due to strikes in his last six fights, tonight’s quick finish in particular suggests that he needs to seriously consider hanging up his gloves.

As for Reyes, he remains undefeated and with another impressive finish to his resume against a big name opponent he could well now be pushing himself into contention for a light-heavyweight title shot against Jon Jones.
