Donald Cerrone suggested on Saturday night after an impressive win over Mike Perry that he was getting ready to drop back down to lightweight to take on a big name, but no-one realized quite how big he meant.
”There is someone, they already came up and told me,” Cerrone said after UFC Fight Night 139. “There’s your clickbait. They told me the who for once in my life first. 155. It’s very exciting. Guy’s very exciting. You’ll like it. You’ll all like it.”
However, Cerrone has now dropped a big hint as to who that person might be as he posted a picture of himself and McGregor on Instagram alongside the caption, “Just waiting on him! 🤔. “ I know a guy” 🤠
The Irish Daily Mirror also claimed on Tuesday that McGregor is “on the verge of signing” a fight against Cerrone.
If that is the case then it’s not quite what McGregor had in mind for his next fight, having asked Dana White for an immediate rematch against Khabib Nurmagomedov.
However, McGregor had also indicated that he’d be willing to fight someone who would put him back in contention for the title, and though Cerrone isn’t necccessarily going to be at the top of the rankings, he does have the profile to be someone that would fit the bill.
