A welterweight fight between Donald Cerrone and Leon Edwards is believed to be on the verge of being signed to headline the forthcoming UFC Fight Night 132 event in Singapore on June 23rd.
‘Cowboy’ last fought in February, getting back to winning ways with a first round TKO victory over Yancy Medeiros in the main event of UFC Fight Night 126.
Prior to that Cerrone had hit the roughest patch in his career to date, suffering three losses in a row against Jorge Masvidal, Robbie Lawler and Darren Till, two of which came by way of TKO.
Before that Cerrone had won 12 of his previous 13 fights however, so he’ll be hoping that he’s now put that bump in the road behind him and can return to that kind of form.
Standing in his way is the UK’s Edwards, who has been craving a big-name opponent for some time.
In the meantime ‘Rocky’ has compiled a five-fight winning streak at 170lbs, with wins over the likes of Albert Tumenov, Vicente Luque, Bryan Barberena and most recently a TKO finish against Peter Sobotta with just one second remaining in the fight.
Though not officially announced yet, Cerrone Vs Edwards is expected to top a card that is also expected to feature a women’s flyweight encounter between Jessica Eye and jessica Rose-Clark.
