Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor appear to have buried the hatchet, for now at least, regarding their recent dispute over a charity payment, with ‘The Diamond’ issuing an apology, while ‘The Notorious’ has confirmed the trilogy fight between them is still on.
A few days ago Poirier had accused McGregor of renaging on his pledge to donate $500,000 to Poirier’s ‘Good Fight Foundation’ charity, which provoked an angry reaction from the Irish superstar, who claimed that the charity hadn’t provided a suitable plan for how the money would be used and then upped the ante by claiming he wasn’t going to fight him again after all.
Thankfully cooler heads have prevailed, and despite his charity still being $500,000 out of pocket at the time of writing, Poirier took it upon himself to apologize to McGregor for airing their dirty laundry in public.
“1-1 July 10th we will settle the score!” Poirier wrote. “Excited for the Trilogy with @TheNotoriousMMA but wanted to address this first.
“I am very passionate about my charity as you all know. I jumped the gun and took my private matters between Conor and my foundation public. My mistake, we live, we learn. Spreading positivity and doing good is my goal!
“I feel like I have brought a negative energy and personal opinions into something I am working so hard on that gives people a reason to cheer and smile. I will take this in stride and continue to fight the good fight! New goal coming soon and it is a big one. Thank you to all who is involved and all the supporters who believe in our vision.”
Meanwhile, after Dana White announced yesterday on Twitter that Poirier vs. McGregor III would headline UFC 264 in front of 20,000 fans at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, McGregor seperately confirmed that the fight is still going ahead as planned.
“I signed my bout agreement this morning,” McGregor told ESPN’s Ariel Helwani. “I’m going to rip this game a new asshole July 10th. The Mac is back in Sin City! Full house!”
