A rematch between lightweight stars Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier has now been made official for UFC on FOX 30 in Calgary, Canada on July 28th.
Alvarez and Poirier first clashed at UFC 211 in May of last year, which was on course to being a thrilling battle until it ended prematurely in the second round when Alvarez landed illegal knees to ‘The Diamond’ while he was grounded, leading to a no-contest ruling.
Since then Alvarez has claimed a memorable KO victory in an absolute war with Justin Gaethje back in December of last year and now holds the No.3 spot on the 155lb rankings.
Meanwhile, Poirier has also been in fine form, TKO’ing Anthony Pettis in the third round and then doing the same to Justin Gaethje in one of the fights of the year so far last month, leaving him just one spot behind Alvarez in the rankings at No.4.
Alvarez Vs Poirier is expected to headline a UFC On FOX 30 fight card that will also see former featherweight champion Jose Aldo going up against Jeremy Stephens, while ex-women’s bantamweight champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk will also be back in action against Tecia Torres and Ross Pearson faces John Makdessi.
