Edson Barboza recently signed a new deal with the UFC and now has his next fight lined up too, as he’s signed up to fight Shane Burgos at UFC 262 on May 15th.
The 35-year-old Barboza is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Makwan Amirkhani back in October, which had ended a three-fight losing streak.
That run of defeats isn’t as bad as it first seems as though it started with a tough KO loss against Justin Gaethje, the two fights following that against Paul felder and Dan Ige were closely fought and ended in split decision verdicts.
Nevertheless, that leaves Barboza ranked just No.14 in the featherweight division heading into his next fight against Burgos, who lost by unanimous decision to Josh Emmett in his last Octagon outing back in June of last year.
Before that the 29-year-old Burgos had been on a three-fight winning streak though, defeating Kurt Holobaugh, Cub Swanson and Makwan Amirkhani, but doesn’t currently hold down a spot on the 145lb rankings.
Barboza vs. Burgos joins a UFC 262 card that currently doesn’t have either main or co-main event booked, with other notable fights including Katlyn Chookagian vs. Viviane Araujo and Andrea Lee vs. Antonina Shevchenko.
