Edson Barboza will be back in action against Steve Garcia at UFC Fight Night 252 on February 22nd at a destination that’s still to be confirmed at this stage.
Barboza, who will turn 39-years-old a month before the bout, is coming off a unanimous decision loss in a ‘Fight Of The Night’ performance against Lerone Murphy back in May.
However, the striker had earned back-to-back wins over Sodiq Yusuff and Billy Quarantillo prior to that. Truth-be-told though, the veteran has only gone 4-6 in his last 10 Octagon appearances, and as such is only just holding onto the No.15 spot on the featherweight rankings heading into his next fight.
Barboza will be going up against the 32-year-old Garcia, who is currently unranked, but is on a five-fight winning streak.
Along the way he’s beaten the likes of Kyle Nelson, Chase Hooper and Seung-Woo Choi, and he’ll be hoping a win over a high-profile opponent like Barboza could be his opportunity to break into the rankings at 145lbs.
Barboza vs. Garcia is one of only two bouts so far confirmed for the UFC Fight Night 252 event, with a postponed women’s bantamweight fight between Ketlen Vieira and Macy Chiasson now also having been added to the line-up.
