Fabricio Werdum Armbar’s Alexander Gustafsson In First Round At UFC On ESPN 14

Fabricio Werdum served a reminder of just how dangerous he can be on the mat tonight at UFC On ESPN 14 as he tapped out Alexander Gustafsson in just half a round.

Round One:

Gustafsson feels a jab out to the body and then the head, but doesn’t find the mark. Hard leg kick for Werdum.

Head kick attempt from Werdum. Gustafsson pumps out the jab. Missed punch from Werdum. Low leg kick from Werdum and punches land in return from Gustafsson.

Werdum goes for a takedown, but Gustafsson does well to stuff that partially. However, Werdum is not giving up on this as Gustafsson lands a series of punches to the head.

Gustafsson tries to stand and get Werdum’s arms off him, but Werdum stays determined and secures the takedown. Werdum thinks about a choke and then starts working for an armbar. Gustafsson face down trying to defend, while staying patient here, knowing that a wrong move at this stage could spell serious trouble.

This is Werdum’s world though on the mat and he’s biding his time waiting for the right moment to lock this up fully, rolling to a better position and when he does finally crank on the arm Gustafsson has no answer and is forced to tap out.

Quick submission win for Werdum at 2.30mins of the first round to get back to winning ways!
