A heavyweight clash between Fabricio Werdum and Alexander Volkov will headline UFC Fight Night 127 in London, England on March 17th.
Confirmation of the main event comes just days after former middleweight champion Michael Bisping ruled himself out of the show, despite having previously earmarked it as the destination for the final fight of his career.
In his place steps another former champion, Fabricio Werdum, who has gone 3-1 in the heavyweight division since losing the title to Stipe Miocic back in 2016.
The 40-year-old is coming off back-to-back wins over Walt Harris and Marcin Tybura, which has kept him not far off title contention as the No.3 ranked contender in the weight class.
Meanwhile, 29-year-old former Bellator heavyweight champion Volkov is one of the emerging forces in the division, with three victories in a row since signing for the UFC in late 2016.
Along the way he’s notched up victories over Timothy Johnson, Roy Nelson and most recently Stefan Struve to claim the No.7 spot on the rankings, and a win over Werdum would go a long way to staking his claim for a shot at the belt.
Werdum Vs Volkov headlines a UFC Fight Night 127 card that will also feature a light-heavyweight fight between Jimi Manuwa and Jan Blachowicz, which is likely to serve as the co-main event.
