Fabricio Werdum Vs Derrick Lewis Goes Down At UFC 216

Former heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum’s next fight will be against Derrick Lewis at UFC 216 in Las Vegas on October 7th.

The 40-year-old Werdum lost out by majority decision in his last fight against Alistair Overeem at UFC 213 last month, which came after he’d lost his title to Stipe Miocic by KO back in May of last year, followed by a rebound win against Travis Browne that Sepemteber.

Lewis briefly retired after his last fight, a TKO loss to Mark Hunt in June, hinting that back issues were paying a big part in his decision, but he’s since had a change of heart.

That’s a good thing as ‘The Black Beast’ had been riding a six-fight winning streak prior to his defeat that had included KO victories over the likes of Travis Browne and Gabriel Gonzaga, plus a win on the scorecards against Roy Nelson.

Werdum Vs Lewis helps bolster a UFC 216 show that’s still without a headliner as the promotion continues to hestitate to pull the trigger on a rumored heavyweight title clash between Stipe Miocic and Cain Velasquez.

However, the event does now have an interim lightweight title fight between Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee on-board, plus a string of intriguing additional match-ups like Beneil Dariush Vs Evan Dunham, Will Brooks Vs Nik Lentz and Bobby Green Vs Lando Vannata.
