A heavyweight fight between Francis Ngannou and Junior dos Santos that was originally scheduled for UFC 239 in July has now been moved to take the main event spot at UFC On ESPN 3 in Minneapolis on June 29th.
The UFC made the switch after the previous headliner between Tyron Woodley and Robbie Lawler fell through due to Woodley suffering a hand injury.
The fight comes at a time when Ngannou has got himself back on track after disappointing performances in his losses against Stipe Miocic and Derrick Lewis in the first half of 2018.
Since then he’s gone on to claim a 45 second knockout win in a rematch with Curtis Blaydes and then followed that up with an even quicker 26 second KO of former champion Cain Velasquez earlier this year.
Dos Santos has also been in a good form in recent times, starting off with a decision win over Blagoy Ivanov, then going on to TKO Tai Tuivasa and most recently claim another TKO victory over Derrick Lewis.
That leaves Ngannou ranked No.2 in the division, one place above dos Santos, making this a finely balanced fight with potential title implications.
UFC On ESPN 3 now proceeds with this fight headlining above other fights such as Demian Maia Vs Anthony Rocco Martin and Joseph Benavidez Vs Jussier Formiga.
