Featherweight champion Max Holloway may be off the UFC 222 fight card on March 3rd, but the good news for Las Vegas fans is that it seems his opponent, Frankie Edgar still intends to compete at the show.

“Here we go again, definitely disappointed but fate wasn’t having it,” Edager said of Holloway’s injury call-off. “I wish Max a speedy recovery but the show must go on. See you all in Vegas March 3rd!”

According to MMAfighting’s Ariel Helwani, the UFC are currently looking into the possibility of having Edgar fight one the featherweight division’s other leading contenders, Brian Ortega instead, although it seems that they aren’t planning on making it for an interim 145lb title.

Helwani also notes that even if the fight was booked, UFC officials aren’t planning on making it to the main event for the card, as they would prefer to lead with a title fight instead.

However, TJ Dillashaw has thrown a spanner in the works by turning down the opportunity to headline with a bantamweight title rematch against Cody Garbrandt, so it remains to be seen whether they can find an alternative fight that would be worthy of leading the pay-per-view on just a month’s notice.
