Dana White hinted recently that he was working on a super-fight that didn’t involve Conor McGregor and it led to rumors it could involve the return of Georges St-Pierre, but the retired legend has now stated categorically that it’s got nothing to do with him.
“Absolutely not,” St-Pierre told reporters. “I promise you, I always told myself that I will not fight in the cage after the age of 40. I don’t say I will never compete in any combat sport event, but a fight in a cage professionally in a serious thing for my legacy, I will not do it.”
GSP had however been preparing to undertake a grappling match at the UFC Fight Pass Invitational event this past Sunday, with the word being that his opponent was going to be Nick Diaz. However, St-Pierre suffered an injury that left him unable to compete.
“I’m extremely competitive, and sometimes I forget that I’m 42, and I don’t give myself enough rest, and that’s why I think I partially tore my labrum, my subscap, and my rotator cuff,” St-Pierre said. “But my shoulder is getting better, and we’ll see how it goes.”
The final fight of St-Pierre’s career took place back in 2017 when he returned from a four-year hiatus to beat Michael Bisping via submission to win the middleweight title.
That would prove to be the former long-time welterweight champion’s only fight at 185lbs before hanging up his gloves for good, retiring with an overall career record of 26-2 and going down in history as one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters of all-time.
