Ihor Potieria was able to outstrike Robert Bryczek tonight at UFC Fight Night 236 to get back to winning ways via unanimous decision.
Round One:
Body kick for Potieria. Heavy two-piece combo from Bryczek as Potieria was trying to land a punch.
Body kick for Potieria. Body punch from Bryczek. Eyepoke from Bryczek as his opponent was stepping in with a big punch forces a brief stoppage to give Potieria time to recover.
After a couple of minutes Potieria is good to go. Calf kick for Potieria. he lands another on the inside of the calf this time. He lands that again.
Bryczek tries to work for the body. Punch comes off the forehead from Potieria. Now a big punch from Bryczek lands clean.
Bryczek wades forward throwing a flurry. Right hand for him. Potieria with a low kick. Bryczek throws a body punch, but it unintentionally lands to the groin and forces another stoppage for Potieria to recover again.
Almost three minutes later Potieria is ready to go again and Bryczek gets a hard warning. Body punch for Bryczek. Inside leg kick for Potieria. In close there’s a quick exchange in which Bryczek lands an elbow.
Potieria thinking about a takedown but nothing doing. left hand for him. He flicks out the jab. Missed power punch from Bryczek and Potieria clinches up and is around to his back against the cage. Knees to the back of the leg from him.
Final 30 seconds of the round. Potieria continues to land more knees to the back of the leg then throws a brief flurry of punches as the round is coming to a close. Bryczek responds with a couple of his own hooks.
Round Two:
Grazing hooks from Potieria. Now a leg kick from him. Body punch from Bryczek. Potieria flicking out the jab. He fakes a takedown and tries for an uppercut instead that misses.
Spinning backfist from Potieria just grazes over the top of Bryczek’s head. Missed punches from Potieria. Bryczek with a body punch. Low kick for Potieria.
Straight right for Bryczek. Bryczek rips a hook to the body. Potieria taunting him. Another body punch for Bryczek. Potieria with unpredictable movement. Punch for Potieria and then attempts a single-leg that doesn’t pay off.
Spinning kick to the thigh from Potieria. Calf kick for Bryczek. Wacky sweep kick from Potieria fails. Right hand from Bryczek.
Jab for Potieria. Now goes to the body. Jab for Potieria and a body punch for Bryczek. Uppercut for Potieria.
Bryczek struggling to really pick up the pace and dial in his punches cleanly here as Potieria sticks to his unorthodox style.
Round Three:
jab for Bryczek. He’s trying to let his hands go more but Potieria catches him with a nice punch that snaps his head back for a moment. However, Bryczek then tags him with a hard punch too.
Bryczek looking to pick things up, but then Potieria with a combination and a punch lands that backs Bryczek up and then stumbles to the mat momentarily.
Bryczek back up but Potieria is now the one applying lots of pressure. More big punches from him as he swings for the fences hoping for a finish.
Bryczek trying to fire back. Potieria doing likewise though and lands more punches. They action slows a little as they clinch up against the cage.
They separate now with a minute to go. Left hand for Potieria. He goes for a single leg but Bryczek gets his leg free.
jab for Potieria. He clinches up and walks his opponent over to the cage. He shunts around to his back as he tries to gets a late takedown. Bryczek turns into him and lands a hook. He’s trying to find a late finish here, but despite landing another hook we’re heading to the scorecards.
Decision:
So, after suffering some unfortunate and unintentional blows early in the fight, Potieria was able to battle his way into this fight nicely enough to emerge with a much needed unanimous decision victory (30-27 x2, 29-28).
