Ilir Latifi Among 7 Fighters Cut By UFC

The UFC has unleashed another wave of cuts to their roster, with seven fighters having being shown the exit door in recent days.

Among them is ‘The Sledgehammer’ Ilir Latifi, who made his UFC debut on just four days notice against Gegard Mousasi back in 2013.

Latifi lost that fight on the scorecards, but it paved the way for him to have a long run in the promotion, going 9-7 over the years.

After a win over Aleksei Oleinik in October last year the 39-year-old Latifi had hinted that he might be on the verge of retirement, but he did return to action against Rodrigo Nascimento last month, losing out by split-decision.

Finland’s Makwan Amirkhani has also been released, bringing an end to his 7-7 promotional run that began back in 2015.

It’s unlikely to come as too much of a surprise for the 34-year-old as he’d only mustered one win in his last six Octagon appearances.

Other fighters on the chopping block included Trevin Jones (1-4 +1nc), Tony Gravely (4-4), Mounir Lazzez (2-2), Omar Morales (3-4) and Batgerel Danaa (3-4).
