Islam Makhachev Finishes Dan Hooker With Kimura In 1st Round At UFC 267

Islam Makhachev ran through Dan Hooker today at UFC 267, taking him down almost instantly and then smoothly working his way to a kimura submission that forced his opponent to tap out.

Round One:

Hooker feels out with the jab from range to start. Now a kick to the inside of the thigh. Makhachev with a hook upstairs and then instantly into a takedown and lands it.

Makhachev in half guard parallel to the cage in the opening minute of the fight. He’s staying tight to Hooker for now. Makhachev almost going for a knee on the belly, then opts to work for a kimura and from there is able to smoothly pass to side control.

However, Makhachev is continuing to work this kimura and Hooker looks troubled by it. Makhachev with excellent positioning as he steps one leg over his opponents head and starts cranking hard on this submission, leaving Hooker with no option but to tap out immediately at 2.25mins of the opening round!

Very impressive stuff from Makhachev to tap out a quality opponent like Hooker so easily, and with his ninth win in a row in the UFC logged he surely must be on the road to a title shot sooner rather than later.
