Islam Makhachev earned his tenth UFC victory in a row tonight in the main event of UFC Fight Night 202 with a quick ground-and-pound finish against short-notice replacement Bobby Green.
Round One:
The main event is underway in Las Vegas.
Head kick attempt straight away from Makhachev that’s blocked. Solid leg kick for him and then just comes up short with a push kick.
One-two from Makhachev and then tries to step in to an attempt to wrap up Green’s neck, but he gets away.
Green punches to the body. Jab from Makhachev. Body kick attempt from Green is caught by Makhachev, who then rushes in looking for a potential takedown attempt. He clinches up against the cage and tries for a trip that doesn’t pay off. He continues to working for a takedown though and does bring him down now.
Makhachev trying to quickly move into mount. Green defends and then tries to sneak out from under his opponent. Makhachev adjusts his positioning though and settles into half-guard.
Now Makhachev manages to smoothly move to full mount. Green turns his back and Makhachev lands a few punches. Green turning and then gives up his back again and Makhachev rains down heavy ground-and-pound. Green can’t break free and has to just cover up until the referee steps in and ends the fight.
A quick and dominant TKO victory for Makhachev at 3.23mins of the first round as he continues to compile a strong case for lightweight title contention.
