A light-heavyweight clash of champions between current titleholder Jan Blachowicz and middleweight kingpin Israel Adesanya has been officially announced as the main event for UFC 259 on March 6th.
The fight sees Adesanya moving up to 205lbs for the first time after successful defenses of his middleweight title against Yoel Romero and Paul Costa this year.
In total Adesanya has now compiled a perfect 20-0 record at 185lbs, including 8 victories in a row during his UFC campaign so far, including beating other stars like Robert Whittaker, Anderson Silva and Kelvin Gastelum.
Now he’ll make a push to become the UFC’s latest double-champion by taking on Blachowicz, who was only recently crowned the 205lb king with a TKO victory over Dominick Reyes enabling him to seize the vacant title.
That makes it four wins in a row for Blachowicz, having also claimed KO victories over Luke Rockhold and Corey Anderson in addition to a split decision win over Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza.
Blachowicz vs. Adesanya joins a UFC 259 card that already had a title fight attached to it, with women’s double champ Amanda Nunes set to make the latest defense of her featherweight title against Megan Anderson, while Aleksander Rakic also fights Thiago Santos and Dominick Cruz returns against Casey Kenney.
