Jessica Andrade Vs Karolina Kowalkiewicz Announced For UFC 228

A women’s strawweight fight between Jessica Andrade and Karolina Kowalkiewicz has been assigned to UFC 228 in Texas on September 8th.

Andrade has been busy compiling another compelling case to be awarded a second title shot over the course of the past year, having come up short in her first attempt against Joanna Jedrzejczyk in May of last year.

So far she’s defeated another former title contender Claudia Gadelha by unanimous decision, followed by another win on the scorecards against Tecia Torres back in February, and that leaves the 26-year-old ranked No.2 in the division, meaning a victory over Kowalkiewicz would put her in a strong position to challenge for the belt next time out.

As for Kowalkiewicz, she is also enjoying a run of back-to-back victories, earning a unanimous decision verdict against Josie Esquibel followed by a split decision win over Felice Herrig last time out in April, taking her overall record to 12-2 and leaving her placed No.4 at 115lbs, not far from the title picture either.

Andrade and Kowalkiewicz joins a UFC 228 card that also has another high-profile women’s bout on deck, with Nicco Montano set to defend her flyweight title for the first time against Valentina Shechenko in what’s expected to be one of the top two featured bouts on the line-up.
