A women’s strawweight fight between former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Michelle Waterson is being targeted to headline the UFC Fight Night 161 event in San Francisco on October 12th.
The fight has reportedly been verbally agreed and would see Jedrzeczjyk return to 115lbs after an unsuccessful attempt to win the flyweight title against Valentina Shevchenko in December of last year, losing out by unanimous decision.
Jedzrezjczyk’s last outing at strawweight saw her defeat Tecia Torres unanimously on the scorecards, getting her back to winning ways in the weight class after back-to-back losses against Rose Namajunas ended her dominant reign as the division’s champion.
As for Waterson, she is in the midst of a three-fight winning streak that’s seen her win decisions against Cortney Casey, Felice Herrig and Karolina Kowalkiewicz.
That’s ‘The Karate Hottie’s’ best run in the UFC to date and leaves her ranked No.7, while Jedrzejczyk is three places higher at No.4.
The UFC’s first ever visit to San Francisco doesn’t currently have any other fights attached to it as yet.
