These are two talented fighters, but their form of late has been markedly different despite being within touch distance of each other in the 135lb rankings – Dodson at No.7, Rivera at No.5.

The 33-year-old Dodson has been alternating between wins and losses consistently for the past three years, going 4-3 during that period.

Most recently, ‘The Magician’ notched up a split decision victory over Pedro Munhoz, following on from a split decision loss to one of the decision’s leading contenders, Marlon Moraes.

As for Rivera, the 28-year-old saw a 20-fight winning streak come to a sudden halt against the aforementioned Moraes earlier this month by way of a stunning 33 second head kick knockout.
