Dominick Reyes attempt to praise his next opponent, Jon Jones on Twitter didn’t go quite how he planned when the UFC light-heavyweight champion took it as a chance to start trash-talking the challenger.

“A champion so great, he is now going to be fighting the first of the next generation!” Reyes had wrote on Twitter. “It’s such an honor and I can’t wait for my crack at the king in the octagon. @JonnyBones #legendary #champion #new #champion #kingdom #mma #history.”

However, Jones apparently took offense at Reyes suddenly showing him respect, and also wanted to question why the Brazilian believed he had something new to offer in the Octagon.

“Now you’re going to show this fake ass respect?” Jones wrote.

“You started this whole thing talking about party favors and now you’re going to show this fake ass respect? Serious question Dominic, what exactly is so next generation about you or your fighting style? Youre a new name, that’s the only thing different about you.

Jones then started critiquing Reyes’ fight game in a less than flaterring fashion.

“You throw some decent kicks and have knock out power in your left hand. If you honestly think your fighting style is somehow innovative or next generation your [sadly] mistaken my friend. Your coaches have [gassed] up your head way too big and I cannot wait to deflate it.”

Jones continued by responding to a fan who suggested that he just submit the striker.

“That’s the easy way out, I don’t do easy. There’s absolutely no where in his game I’m intimidated. He’s dangerous in the first round, after that I’ll figure him out and pick them apart.”

Reyes has since laughed off Jones remarks.

“😂 Someone is having a positive Sunday morning! Hey man @ me next time so I know the moment you lose it @JonnyBones
