Any hopes that there was some kind of mistake with Jon Jones recent positive drug test have now been dashed after his ‘B’ sample also came back positive for the illegal steroid Turinabol.
“Mr. Jones’ B sample has confirmed the A sample findings,” a USADA statement reads. “Importantly — as previously stated — due process should occur before drawing any conclusions about this matter.”
Jones and his team have previously denied that he knowingly took to the steroid and are likely to continue their investigation into how it got into his system ahead of a future hearings with USADA and the California State Athletic Commission on the matter.
The UFC light-heavyweight champion could now be facing up to a four year ban from the sport due to the fact that this would be the second time he’s been caught by USADA, having not long since finished serving a year-long suspension after testing positive for anti-estrogenic agents prior to UFC 200 last year.
So, the prime years of what could well be the greatest MMA fighter of all-time now look very much like they are going to go to waste, and if so that would leave no doubt that despite all the big-name stars he’s fought over the years, Jones own worst enemy is himself.
