Jorge Masvidal Calls Out Leon Edwards For UFC Fight

Jorge Masvidal had let it known recently that he was interested in coming out of MMA retirement to fight again in the UFC, and now he’s called out an old rival Leon Edwards as a potential opponent.

“I’ll tell you right now, Leon, I will whoop your f*cking ass,” Masvidal told mmafighting.com “Let’s f*cking go. I don’t know maybe Dec. 7 in Vegas, maybe next year at the Super Bowl. I don’t know but I’ll beat the f*ck out of your little skinny ass.”

Of course the two have unfinished business stemming from an infamous backstage altercation at UFC Fight Night 147 in 2019 when a brief verbal exchange while Masvidal was being interviewed live on-air led to a brief scuffle in which he hit the UK star.

A fight between the two seemed inevitable, but their paths never crossed.  Neverthless the two went on to big things, with Masvidal becoming a box-office draw for the UFC and fighting for the 170lb title twice, while Edwards eventually went on to win the title and defend it twice.

However, Edwards has since been defeated by Belal Muhammad, which could pave the way for the fight with Masvidal to happen.

And speaking of Muhammad, Masvidal had nothing but praise for the new champion’s rise to the top of the division.

“Belal has [improved] so much since I first saw him,” Masvidal said. “I saw him fight live before in the UFC and it’s like he’s not the best athlete, he doesn’t have the craziest skill set. But slowly but surely, this guy just got better and better and better. There’s a lot of times where I was like he’s not beating that guy. Wrong! He beat the f*ck out of that guy. He did that multiple times.

“Now to see him as the champion, I think he’s one of the guys that’s improved drastically the most. Truly amazing. Great journey.”
