Josh Emmett vs. Ilia Topuria To Headline UFC Fight Night 227 In June

An important bantamweight fight between Josh Emmett and Ilia Topuria will headline UFC Fight Night 227 on June 17th.

Emmett is coming an unsuccessful attempt to win the interim bantamweight title last month, suffering a second round submission loss to Yair Rodriguez.

That ended the 38-year-old’s five-fight winning streak, which had seen him defeat the likes of Calvin Kattar, Dan Ige, Shane Burgos, Mirsad Bektic and Michael Johnson over a three year period, and as such he still holds the No.5 spot in the 135lb rankings heading into this fight.

As for the 26-year-old Topuria, he’s currently undefeated in his 13-fight career, which includes five wins in the UFC so far.

So far in the Octagon he’s proven to be a dangerous finisher, with only his debut win over Youseff Zalal going to the scorecards.

Since then he’s gone on to rack up three KO wins in a row against Damon Jackson, Ryan Hall and Jai Herbert, while last time out he submitted Bryce Mitchell, taking him to No.9 in the rankings.

Emmett vs Topuria fronts a UFC Fight Night 227 card that is still in the early stages of development and also doesn’t yet have a location confirmed at this time.
