Julianna Pena Wants Amanda Nunes Fight After Holly Holm Withdrawal

Julianna Pena has called for a fight against two-division champion Amanda Nunes after her next opponent Holly Holm withdrew from their bout on May 15th.

Holm is believed to have an undisclosed injury which has led to her pulling out of the bantamweight bout, and so after watching Amanda Nunes easily run through Megan Anderson in her latest featherweight title defense, the No.6 ranked ‘Venezuelan Vixen’ now sees this as an opportunity to go for gold.

“I want to fight (Amanda Nunes),” Pena wrote on social media. “Get rid of 145 it’s dead. Fight me Amanda!”

The idea was later presented to Dana White at the UFC 259 post-fight press conference, and he wasn’t opposed to it.

“Julianna Pena has been texting all of us all night,” White told reporters. “She’s been busy tonight. Yeah, we could do that.”

Nunes was also asked about her thoughts on the potential fight, and while she didn’t seem overly keen on the idea, she didn’t rule it out entirely.

“Holly is off, so (Julianna) can fight Germaine (de Randamie again),” Nunes said. “I feel like she has to get in the mix again, but we’ll see. … I’m a champ, you know. I’m never going to turn down a fight.”
