Two former flyweight title contenders Kai Kara-France and Alex Perez will fight each other at the upcoming UFC 284 event in Perth, Australia on February 12th.
The 29-year-old Kara-France’s last fight saw him battle for the interim flyweight title against Brandon Moreno, but despite a competitive showing he was ultimately TKO’d in the third round.
Prior to that Kara-France had racked up a trio of wins, defeating Rogerio Bontorin by KO, Cody Garbrandt by TKO and Askar Askarov by unanimous decision, which means that he’s still holding the No.3 contender spot at 125lbs heading into this match-up.
As for Perez, his own three-fight winning streak helped book him a title shot against Deiveson Figueiredo in late 2020, but he was submitted in the first round and has since gone on to be swiftly submitted by Alexandre Pantoja too, which leaves him ranked No.6 in the division.
Kara-France vs. Perez lands on a UFC 284 card that will be headlined by a lightweight title showdown between newly crowned champion Islam Makhachev and featherweight titleholder Alexander Volkanovski, with Yair Rodriguez and Josh Emmett fighting for the interim featherweight belt in the co-main event. Other fights like former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker vs. Paulo Costa and Jimmy Crute vs. Alonzo Menifield are also officially booked for the UFC’s first event in Australia since 2019.
