UFC 245 has just landed it’s third major title fight with welterweight champion Kamaru Usman set to fight Colby Covington at the star-studded event in Las Vegas on December 14th.
Up until now Usman has seemed like an unstoppable force in the UFC’s welterweight division, having racked up 10 wins to date since joining in 2015 after winning TUF Season 21.
During his run he’s defeated the likes of Leon Edwards, Demian Maia and Rafael dos Anjos, before finally seizing the title with a dominant decision win over Tyron Woodley back in March.
Now Usman will go up against another fighter currently at the peak of his powers in Covington, who has certainly talked a lot of trash on his way to the top, but has also been backing up his words with action and won his last seven fights in a row.
Like Usman he’s beaten a similar list of big names along the way, having earned decision wins over the likes of Demian Maia, Rafael dos Anjos and most recently a five-round shutout against Robbie Lawler.
The two fighters also have a history of bad blood between them and almost came to blows at a buffet line at a hotel in Las Vegas in the last year, so there will be no love lost between them and that’ll generate plenty of interest in the match-up leading into the event.
Usman vs. Covington is rumored to be the headliner for the UFC 245 event, which remarkably already has another two title fights installed, with Max Holloway set to also defend his featherweight strap against Alexander Volkaovski in what’s likely to be the co-main event, while bantamweight queen Amanda Nunes fights Germaine de Randamie.
