Katlyn Chookagian Beats Amanda Ribas By Split Decision At UFC On ESPN 36

Katlyn Chookagian edged out a split decision win against Amanda Ribas in a competitive fight tonight at UFC On ESPN 36.

Round One:

Ribas pressing forward immediately. She lands a leg kick. Chookagian flicking out her straight punches. She lands a jab.

Ribas looking to clinch. Head and arm throw from Ribas pays off. She nicely adjusts her position and settles in side control.

Light punches from Ribas on as Chookagian is attempting to use her long legs in an attempt to take the back.

Ribas having to work hard to maintain her position and in the end Chookagian manages to work back to her feet.

Ribas with a couple of uppercuts. She attempts a spinning kick. Good punch lands for Chookagian. Now one over the top connects.

Jab lands for Chookagian. Now one to the body. Another jab lands. And again as Ribas steps into range. Chookagian with a knee now then bak to the jab. Spinning back kick from Ribas but only lands to the leg. Right hand from Chookagian. Now a front kick to the body.

More straight punches land for Chookagian in the final seconds of the round.

Round Two:

Leg kick for Chookagian and Ribas lands a punch upstairs. Body punch from Chookagian. She lands the jab and then a one-two.

Inside leg kick for Ribas. Body kick for Chookagian. Solid strikes land for Chookagian. Jab connects. Now a nice right hand.

Head kick attempt from Chookagian. Ribas continues to press forward, gets to the clinch and lands that head and arm throw again.

This time Ribas gets more securely on top, lands a couple of strikes and then into side control. Chookagian brings her back to her open guard.

Ribas to half-guard and lands a couple of punches. Chookagian back to her full guard now and throws her legs up. Chookagian gives up her back to stand up against the cage. Ribas lands knees to the thigh. Chookagian steps away though and looks to land strikes.

Chookagian trying to regain momentum with a minute left in the round. Straight punches from Chookagian. Another couple of punches connect. Superman punch from Ribas misses.

Right hand lands hard for Chookagian. Now another right. Ribas attempts that head and arm throw again, but this time Chookagian get to her back and tries to take her down, then settles for pressing her up against the cage in the final seconds of the round.

Round Three:

Chookagian working behind the jab. She lands a right hand, but stumbles forward afterwards. Ribas doesn’t capitalize though.

Ribas with a spinning kick that lands to the thigh. Ribas attempts a takedown and Chookagian shoves her away.

Chookagian with a punch to the body. Now a backfist for her. Front kick to the body from Ribas. Body kick again. Ribas attempts a takedown that’s shrugged off.

Inside leg kick from Ribas. Body punch from Chookagian. Missed spinning kick from Ribas. jab for Chookagian. Straight punches for Chookagian. Ribas fires back and lands a leg kick. Good jab for Chookagian.

Side kick to the knee from Ribas. Chookagian continues to make the most of her long straight punches. Body kick for Ribas.

Two punches and a body kick from Chookagian. Now a leg kick for her and Ribas returns the favor.

Big takedown for Ribas just before the final minute of the fight. Chookagian is quickly back up against the cage and then escapes.

Push kick from Chookagian. Ribas with a right hand. One-two from Chookagian. Ribas yelling as she throws punches and thow some miss a few start to land.

Clinch and Chookagian lands some knees to the body. Now they trade toe-to-toe with Chookagian landing some clean straight punches as Ribas also lets her hands fly.

Decision:

A close fight then with Ribas landing a couple of takedowns and getting some control time without much in the way of offense and she was also doing her best to press the action on the feet, but Chookagian was consistently landing the cleaner punches in the striking exchanges at a good clip and that helps her to secure a split decision victory (29-28 x2, 28-29).
