Khabib Nurmagomedov Targets New York Rather than Las Vegas For Next Fight

There’s no love lost between Khabib Nurmagomedov and the state of Las Vegas after the punished him and his teammates for their post-fight brawl with Conor McGregor following UFC 229 last year with lengthy suspensions and hefty fines, and it seems that the lightweight champion continues to hold a grudge over it.

As such, Nurmagomedov appears to be making sure that his next fight will take place away from the state that the UFC calls home and usually reserves their biggest fights for.

“Even if they(Vegas) apologize or not,we found a new venue for the fight,” Nurmagomedov told a fan on social media. “It’s going to be in Brooklyn most likely,im not sure about the date yet. We’re still discussing it with the UFC but it looks like it will happen at the beginning of April.”

As for his opponent, at this stage it’s still expected that ‘The Eagle’ will take on long-time No.1 contender Tony Ferguson, who Nurmagomedov has repeatedly insisted deserves the title opportunity following an impressive 12-fight winning streak.

The champion is already well acquainted with fighting in New York as he defeated Michael Johnson by kimura there in 2016 and then won the title in Brooklyn by claiming a unanimous decision victory over Al Iaquinta last year.
