Kurt Holobaugh battled his way to a unanimous decision victory over Kaynan Kruschewsky tonight at UFC On ESPN 60.
Round One:
Holobaugh with a jab. Now a right hand. Kruschewsky into the clinch and they are both looking for strikes here with Kruschewsky throwing punches and Holobaugh sneaking in some knees.
Holobaugh tries to break out, but Kruschewsky presses him back to the cage. They jockey for position against the cage going back-and-forth. Kruschewsky trying to threaten with a possible guillotine but doesn’t commit to him.
Back to striking range. Right hand for Holobaugh and then a hard punch in return from Kruschewsky. Aggressive exchange and then Kruschewsky back into the clinch against the cage trying to set up a takedown attempt.
Knee to the body from Holobaugh and then punches as he backs out. It’s not long before they are back into the clinch though looking for punches and knees.
Kruschewsky punches to the body. Nice straight right from Kruschewsky. Leg kick for Holobaugh. Holobaugh barrels forward throwing punches.
Punch lands for Kruschewsky. Leg kick for Holobaugh. Superman punch lands from Kruschewsky. Holobaugh into the clinch against the cage.
Kruschewsky with a knee to the body. Kruschewsky reaching for a guillotine and then starts to commit to it, but Holobaugh gets out. Dirty boxing in close. Right hand for Holobaugh and then a punch in response from Kruschewsky.
Leg kick for Kruschewsky. Left for Kruschewsky as Holobaugh may also have landed. Kruschewsky in on a takedown as the round ends.
Round Two:
Left hook for Kruschewsky. Jab from Holobaugh. Big hooks from Holobaugh. jab from Kruschewsky. Low kick from Holobaugh.
Jab for Holobaugh. Kruschewsky into the clinch, but Holobaugh turns into him. Kruschewsky threatening with a guillotine and jumps down with it. He gets on top for a moment, but then Holobaugh drives back up and is trying for a single-leg.
Instead Holobaugh suddenly gives up on the takedown attempt due to Kruschewsky still threatening with the guillotine. Kruschewsky has Holobaugh down, but he gets back up. Kruschewsky drops down for the guillotine again but doesn’t have it.
Back on the feet they go to striking range. Holobaugh pouring on the pressure with punches. Grazing right hook from Kruschewsky. One-two from Holobaugh.
Kruschewsky punches to the body. Big punches land for Holobaugh. Kruschewsky with a knee strikes and marches forward with punches behind it.
Body punch from Holobaugh. He goes for a low kick but eats a punch. Kruschewsky with a hook. Straight punches for Holobaugh.
Right hand from Kruschewsky. Right hook for Holobaugh. Right in close they are looking to strike and Holobaugh lands a hard punch to the body.
Holobaugh trying to keep applying pressure. In close Kruschewsky is trying to jump on a guillotine yet again. Holobaugh stays patient and then gets free of it and ends the round on top.
Round Three:
Holobaugh with punches to the body in close. jab for Kruschewsky. He lands it again, but Holobaugh connects too.
Both men landing punches here. Hard punch from Holobaugh. Dirty boxing from Kruschewsky and a knee to the body.
Kruschewsky with a solid trip takedown. Kruschewsky in half-guard here with four minutes remaining. Holobaugh gets him back into his full guard.
Kruschewsky with a good elbow strike. Kruschewsky stacks up and then has to fight off a possible armbar attempt. Punches for Kruschewsky. Holobaugh gets back to his feet.
Jabs for Kruschewsky. Right hand from Holobaugh. Kruschewsky lands another nicely timed takedown, this time in the center of the Octagon.
Kruschewsky postures up. He lands a right hand. Holobaugh trying for an armbar attempt. He doesn’t get that but does manage to scramble to work on top in the final 90 seconds.
Holobaugh in half-guard. Kruschewsky trying to stand, but can’t quite do so. Holobaugh steps in and moves around to the back. He rolls to his back and gets his hooks in. 10 seconds to go and he starts landing some punches and Kruschewsky is punching behind himself in response.
Decision:
A competitive fight throughout then, but Holobaugh got the better of it overall and he emerges with a unanimous decision victory (29-28 x3).
