Major MMA Events In May 2017

By normal standards, May is a relatively quiet month in the mixed martial arts world as the UFC takes a bit of a breather before a relentless schedule of shows in June and July, but there’s still some must-see events in the coming weeks to add to your calendar.

Saturday, May 13th: UFC 211 – Miocic Vs Dos Santos II

Where: Texas, USA

You’ll have to wait until the middle of the month for the first UFC event, but it’s set to be a good one, with UFC 211 offering up a heavyweight title rematch between Stipe Miocic and Junior dos Santos.

There’s more title action in the main event as woman’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk makes her latest title defense against Jessica Andrade.

The stacked show also includes other mouth-watering match-ups like Demian Maia Vs Jorge Masvidal, Frankie Edgar Vs Yair Rodriguez, Henry Cejudo Vs Sergio Pettis and Eddie Alvarez Vs Dustin Poirier.

Friday, May 19th: Bellator 179 – MacDonald Vs Daley

Where: London, England

Bellator also have a high-profile show planned for May as they return to London, England for the debut of former UFC star Rory MacDonald against Paul Daley.

Michael ‘Venom’ Page features in the co-main event against Derek Anderson, while former light-heavyweight champion Liam McGeary squares up to Linton Vassell and Cheick Kongo is back in action against Augusto Sakai.

Saturday, May 20th: Invicta FC 23 – Porto Vs Niedzwiedz

All-female promotion Invicta FC will be back on UFC Fight Pass with Vanessa Porto leading the show against the undefeated Polish fighter Agnieszka Niedzwiedz.

Also look out for the co-main event, which finds Sarah D’Alelio going up against Roxanne Modafferi.

Sunday, May 28th: UFC Fight Night 109 – Gustafsson Vs Teixiera

Where: Stockholm, Sweden

The final action of the month takes place on a Sunday in Sweden as local hero Alexander Gustafsson locks horn with Brazil’s Glover Teixeira in a clash of two top ranked light-heavyweights.

The rest of the card isn’t much to write home about, though rising 205lb talent Misha Cirkunov does feature in the co-main event opposite Volkan Oezdemir, who beat OSP in his UFC debut.
