Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua Vs Volkan Oezdemir Now Headlines UFC Fight Night 134

A light-heavyweight fight between Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua and Volkan Oezdemir will now headline UFC Fight Night 134 in Hamburg, Germany on July 22nd.

The bout had originally been targeted as the co-main event at UFC Fight Night 129 in Chile, but it was pulled from the line-up amid rumors that Oezdemir couldn’t leave the country at the time due to a felony assault charge.

However, it’s not been upgraded to an even higher-profile spot on a card a couple of months later as the 36-year-old ‘Shogun’ attempts to build on a three-fight winning streak that’s seen him defeat Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Corey Anderson and Gian Villante.

Meanwhile, Oezdemir had a six-fight winning streak snapped by current light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier last time out, who defeated the Swiss fighter by TKO in the second round.

Prior to that Oezdemir had been making waves in the UFC’s 205lb ranks during a three-fight unbeaten run after joining the promotion in early 2017, which saw him win a split decision over Ovince Saint Preux in his debut and then go on to KO both Misha Cirkunov and Jimi Manuwa in the first round.

Shogun Vs Oezdemir headlines a UFC Fight Night 134 card that is also set to feature a heavyweight encounter between Stefan Struve and Marcin Tybura.
