A featherweight title fight between Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski has been made official for UFC 245 in Las Vegas on December 14th.
After an unsuccessful attempt to win the interim lightweight title earlier in the year against Dustin Porier, Holloway dropped back down to featherweight and picked up where he’d left off with a convincing decision title win over Frankie Edgar back in July.
Holloway is currently on a 14-fight unbeaten stretch at featherweight, but Volkanovski presents a good challenge for the Hawaiian star as he’s been in excellent form during his UFC run so far.
The Australian fighter is on a 17-fight winning streak that includes seven wins in the UFC to date, defeating the likes of Darren Elkins and Chad Mendes, before recording his biggest win to date back in May against former champion Jose Aldo, who he defeated by unanimous decision.
Holloway vs. Volkanovski joins a UFC 245 fight card that already has a title fight in place, with Amanda Nunes set to defend her bantamweight title against Germaine de Randamie and Dana white recently dropping hints that a third title encounter could feature on the line-up, meaning that it’s unclear at this stage who will take the main event spot.
