Max Holloway vs. Arnold Allen Earmarked To Headline UFC Fight Night 222

A major featherweight fight between Max Holloway and Arnold Allen has been earmarked to headline UFC Fight Night 22 on April 15th at a destination still to be confirmed.

Allen recently revealed that he’d reluctantly had to turn down a big co-main event fight at UFC 286 in London, England in March due to an injury, and though he didn’t mention him by name, the word at the time was that Holloway had been his intended opponent.

So it seems that the UFC were excited enough by the match-up to postpone it for a later date, and the 29-year-old Allen has certainly earned the chance to fight such a high profile star after going on an impressive 10-fight unbeaten run since joining the UFC back in 2016.

Along the way he’s beaten an ever more challenging line up of opponents, culminating in wins over the likes of Sudiq Yusuff, Dan Hooker and most recently Calvin Kattar on his way to the No.4 spot on the 145lb rankings.

Now he’ll go up against 31-year-old former champion Holloway, who is looking to bounce back after a third loss to his nemesis, current titleholder Alexander Volkanovski, last time out.

Before that unanimous decision loss, Holloway had picked up back-to-back wins over Calvin Kattar and Yair Rodriguez though, which ensures that he remains the division’s No.1 contender heading into his next fight.

Holloway vs Allen isn’t official yet, but would front a UFC Fight Night 222 card that will also feature Edson Barboza vs. Billy Quarantillo and Pedro Munhoz vs. Chris Gutierrez.
