Mayra Bueno Silva earned him biggest win to date tonight in the main event of UFC On ESPN 49 by submitting Holly Holm in the second round.
Round One:
The women’s bantamweight main event is underway in Las Vegas.
Holm bursts forward with punches that don’t land. Low kicks now and then a head kick attempt from Holm that doesn’t pay off.
Silva looking to close the distance to land her strikes on her taller opponent, but Holm presses forward into the clinch and pushes Silva up against the cage.
Both ladies exchanging knees but Holm has more leverage. Holm opts to back out now and get back to striking.
Silva presses forward, but Holm lands two nice jabs. Now Holm goes back into the clinch against the cage. A couple of punches land for Holm upstairs from this position.
Elbow strike from Holm before backing off. Holm presses forward with two more left hands. She clinches again as Silva is trying to land.
Silva closes the distance and is applying constant pressure. Silva attempting a spinning backfist. Silva able to land a nice punch and another lands. Her best moment so far. Holm back into the clinch and landing knees to close the round.
Round Two:
Holm fires off a kick. Good hook lands for Silva. Holm clinches up and pushes her into the cage. Holm tries for a takedown, but Silva counters with what initially seemed like a standing guillotine choke, but is in fact a standing ninja choke. Holm is trapped and can’t get out so she’s forced to tap out!
Big win for Silva at 0:38mins of Rd2, becoming only the third person to have finished the former champion inside the distance.
