Molly McCann will once again be fighting on home soil when she goes up against Julija Stoliarenko at UFC Fight Night 227 in London, England on July 22nd.
The 32-year-old was a key component of two UFC Fight Night cards in the same city last year and the roar of the home crowd appeared to spur on to new heights as she picked up a spinning back elbow KO finish against Luana Carolina in the first event and then employed the same technique to queue up a TKO stoppage against Hannah Goldy a few months later.
That extended McCann’s winning streak to three fights and paved the way for her next fight to be overseas at UFC 281 in New York City, but she was unable to replicate her success there, suffering a first round kimura submission loss to Erin Blanchfield.
Now McCann takes on the 30-year-old Stoliarenko, who may be fighting to stay in the promotion after suffering losses in four of her five UFC fights so far, with the lone bright spot being a submission win over Jessica Rose-Clark last July, which only took the weight off her shoulders briefly as she was then TKO’d by Chelsea Handler just a few months later.
McCann vs. Stoliarenko is currently the only fight booked for the UFC Fight Night 227 card, which had originally been considered as a potential PPV event featuring welterweight champion Leon Edwards, before he indicated he wasn’t looking to compete again so soon.
