Boxing legend turned promoter Oscar De La Hoya has revealed that he’s ready to step into the MMA market.
TMZ got the scoop yesterday when they caught up with the Golden Boy Promotions owner as he emerged from a meeting with UFC hall-of-famer Chuck Liddell in Los Angeles.
“It’s no secret that I love what MMA fighters do and the technique they have and the sacrifices they make, so I want to get into the MMA business,” De La Hoya said. “I want to start Golden Boy MMA, and we’re just talking some business.”
The 48-year-old Liddell was standing alongside De La Hoya and confirmed that he intends to step back into the cage, and it could potentially happen under the Golden Boy MMA banner.
“I am making a comeback for sure,” Liddell confirmed.
As for who he would like to go up against in his first fight in eight years, ‘The Iceman’ is apparently eager to rekindle an old rivalry.
“[Tito Ortiz] is always my favorite go-to guy,” Liddell said. “One, he’s easy. Two, I never get tired of hitting the guy! People never seem to get tired of seeing it.”
Despite Liddell and Ortiz having a combined age of 91 and being well past their sell-by date, it seems that De La Hoya would be more than happy to promote another clash between the two veterans.
“Imagine Tito and Chuck once again,” De La Hoya said. “That’d be huge.”
