Paddy Pimblett finally has a fight booked and it’ll be against Bobby Green at UFC 304 in Manchester, England on July 27th.
The 29-year-old Pimblett was always seen as a potential star for the UFC event while he was fighting as featherweight champion for UK promotion Cage Warriors several years ago, and though he’s often best known for his larger-than-life personality he’s actually managed to put together a solid five-fight winning streak in the Octagon so far.
He’s had some struggles along the way, but Pimblett managed to KO Luigi Vendramini in his UFC debut in 2021 and followed that up with back-to-back submission victories against Rodrigo Vargas and Jordan Leavitt.
A somewhat controversial unanimous decision victory over Jared Gordon kept his winning streak going, while in his highest profile fight to date at UFC 296 late last year he defeated Tony Ferguson by unanimous decision.
Pimblett still has his doubters though given that he’s yet to face a ranked opponent and so in comes veteran campaigner Bobby Green, who is currently ranked No.15 in the division after he picked up his third win in his last four fights by convincingly beating Jim Miller on the scorecards at UFC 300 last month.
Green didn’t take kindly to the fact that Pimblett had called him out recently and has now gotten his wish to have a chance to make him regret doing so.
“(I called him out) because he called me (out). He shouldn’t have said my name,” Green had warned at the UFC 300 post-fight presser. “He should have kept it to those other guys. This guy right here will find you. And when I line it up, and I get the sights right, you’re going to pay dearly.”
Pimblett vs. Green joins a UFC 304 card that will be headlined by a welterweight title fight between current champion Leon Edwards and Belal Muhammad, while interim heavyweight champ Tom Aspinall rematches Curtis Blaydes in the co-main event.
