Paige VanZant and Jessica Eye are both planning to move into the UFC’s new women’s flyweight division and the word is that they’ll be fighting each other at UFC 216 in Las Vegas on October 7th.
23-year-old PVZ will be stepping up from the strawweight division, where she’s compiled a 4-2 record during her three year stint in the UFC to date.
This will also be her first fight in 2017, having kept out of the spotlight since her rear-naked choke submission loss to Michelle Waterson at UFC On FOX 22 back in December of last year, which came after her spectacular jumping switch kick KO of Bec Rawlings a few months earlier.
As for Eye, she will be dropping down from bantamweight, where she drastically underperformed with a dismal 1-5 (+1nc) run in the Octagon.
For most people that kind of form would have resulted in them being released from the UFC by now, but Eye has been given yet another chance to prove herself, and a fresh start at 125lbs following over a year out could be just what she needs to finally get back on track.
PVZ Vs Eye isn’t official yet, but it’s believed it will join a UFC 216 that’s rumored to have also been targeted for a heavyweight title main event between Stipe Miocic and Cain Velasquez.
