A bantamweight fight between the 10th ranked Pedro Munhoz and Kyler Phillips has been confirmed for UFC 299 on March 3rd at a location still to be confirmed at this stage.
The 37-year-old Munhoz is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Marlon Vera at UFC 292 in August and follows on from a unanimous decision victory over Chris Gutierrez earlier in the year.
The win over Gutierrez had been much needed as Munhoz had only won once in his previous six fight before that, though it’s worth noting that they were all against top-flight 135lb contenders and included a no-contest against Sean O’Malley due to an accidental eye-poke.
Now he’ll take on the 28-year-old Kyler Phillips, who has won five of his six fights since joining the UFC in early 2020.
Along the way Phillips has beaten the likes of Song Yadong and most recently Raoni Barcelos, while his only loss during that time was via a majority decision against Raulin Paiva in 2021. Nevertheless, Phillips has yet to break into the bantamweight rankings, so a win over Munhoz could be what he needs to make that happen.
Munhoz vs. Phillips joins a UFC 299 card that will be headlined by a bantamweight title fight between Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera.
