Pedro Munhoz Has Coronavirus; Won’t Fight Frankie Edgar On July 15th

Pedro Munhoz is the latest UFC fighter to have tested positive for coronavirus and that means his bout with Frankie Edgar on July 15th at Fight Island has been scrapped.

Munhoz received a positive test prior to getting on a chartered plane from Las Vegas ready to head out to Yas Island on Monday and as such is now in quarantine.

“Sorry to hear you had a positive test @PedroMunhozmma wish you a speedy recovery let know as soon as you’re ready to scrap, I’ll be waiting,” Munhoz’s opponent Frankie Edgar wrote on Twitter.

Edgar vs. Munhoz had been due to serve as the co-main event for the July 15th and as such it’s believed the UFC are now on the hunt for a possible short-notice replacement to step in and fight ‘The Answer’ instead.

Edgar is looking to make his bantamweight debut on Fight Island after back-to-back losses at featherweight against Max Holloway and The Korean Zombie.

As for Munhoz, he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Aljamain Sterling at UFC 238 in May of last year, but had won three fights in a row prior to that.

As things stand the UFC Fight Night 172 event still proceeds with a main event featuring Calvin Kattar vs. Dan Ige.
