A big lightweight fight has been added to UFC 267 on 30th October, with former champion Rafael dos Anjos set to lock horns with the in-form Islam Makhachev.
Makhachev has been eager to secure a bigger name opponent for some time now after going on a long-unbeaten run in the 155lb division that now extends to no less than eight-fights.
Along the way Makhachev has beaten the likes of Nik Lentz, Gleison Tibau, Davi Ramos, Drew Dober and most recently Thiago Moises just last month.
That last fight was something of a turning point as it finally saw Makhachev secure a main event spot at a time when none other than Khabib Nurmagomedov was prediction that his training partner was a future champion of the division, and the win saw him leapfrog to No.5 in the rankings.
Now he’ll be going up against the No.7 ranked RDA, who spent most of the last few years at welterweight, where he started off well enough with wins over the likes of Robbie lawler and Tarec Saffiedine, but then hit a rough patch in which he won just once in five fights.
That prompted a move back down to lightweight late last year, where he got back on track with a split decision victory over Paul Felder.
RDA vs. Makhachev joins a UFC 267 card that will be headlined by a light-heavyweight title fight between Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira, with a co-main event featuring more title action as Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan head into a bantamweight rematch.
