Former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos will make his welterweight debut against Tarec Saffiedine at UFC Fight Night 111 on June 17th in Singapore.
Not so long ago Dos Anjos appeared to be unstoppable as he racked up five wins in a row against some of the biggest names in the lightweight division to become champion.
However, he then lost his belt after being TKO’d by Eddie Alvarez at UFC Fight Night 90 in July of last year and he’s since suffered a second loss to Tony Ferguson, which prompted his decision to step up a weight class.
RDA isn’t the first fighter to step up from 155lbs recently, with both Donald Cerrone and Jorge Masvidal having put together solid runs at welterweight that have left them placed in the top 10, and the Brazilian will now be hoping he can follow in their footsteps.
As for Saffiedine, the former Strikeforce champion started 2016 brightly enough with a decision victory over Jake Ellenberger, but back-to-back losses against Rick Story and Dong Hyun Kim have meant that he’s now barely holding onto the No.10 position in the division.
RDA Vs Saffiedine joins a UFC Fight Night: Singapore card that also features a heavyweight clash between Andrei Arlovski and Marcin Tybura, while Takanori Gomi will go up against Jon Tuck.
