A female bantamweight clash between Raquel Pennington and Germaine de Randamie has been announced for UFC Fight Night 139 in Denver on November 10th, an event that will mark the UFC’s 25th anniversary.
Pennington is coming of an unsuccessful attempt to take the 135lb title from Amanda Nunes, losing out by TKO in the 5th round.
That brought an end to an impressive four-fight winning streak for ‘Rocky’ that had seen her defeat the likes of Jessica Andrade, Bethe Correia, Elizabeth Phillips and Miesha Tate.
As for De Randamie, this will be her first fight back since February of last year when she won the inaugural women’s featherweight title with a unanimous decision victory over Holly Holm, only to then be stripped of the belt after refusing to fight Cris ‘Cyborg’.
That marked the Dutch fighter’s third win in a row, but after dropping back down to bantamweight she’s now ranked No.5 in the division, one spot behind Pennington.
Pennington Vs de Randamie joins a UFC Fight Night 139 card that will be headlined by a featherweight encounter between Frankie Edgar and ‘The Korean Zombie’, while Donald Cerrone will also fight Mike Perry in what’s likely to be the co-main event of the evening.
