Renato Moicano Calls Out Jose Aldo

Rising featherweight star Renato Moicano has called out his countryman and former divisional champion Jose Aldo to fight him next in the Octagon.

“There’s only one fight that makes sense while we wait Max vs.Ortega,” Moicano wrote on Twitter. “Moicano vs. Aldo to determine who will fight for the title. You’re a legend @josealdojunior, but it’s my TIME!!!… I’m ready!!! @danawhite @seanshelby @ufc @MMAFighting @MMAjunkie @ConanSilveira @Alexdavismma.”

Moicano has gone 5-1 during his run to date, recording wins over the likes of Jeremy Stephens and most recently Cub Swanson along the way, while his only loss to date has been via third round submission against current interim titleholder Brian Ortega.

That leaves Moicano ranked No.4 in the division, just two spots behind Aldo, who has rebounded from back-to-back title fight defeats against Max Holloway with a first round TKO victory over Jeremy Stephens last month.

So, a fight between Aldo and Moicano would make sense in the division, though the No.3 ranked Frankie Edgar would likely have something to say about it given that he’s bounced back from a KO loss to Ortega back in March with a unanimous decision victory over Cub Swanson.

With that in mind, it’s possible that Moicano could just as easily find himself fighting Edgar next, but either way a victory would put him in a strong position to move into title contention.
