Renato Moicano got the better of Alexander Hernandez in the second round tonight at UFC 271, initially hurting him with a flurry of strikes on the feet before submitting him with a rear-naked choke.
Round One:
Leg kick for Moicano to start. He lands another. Hernandez with an inside leg kick of his own. Hernandez with another kick, higher up this time.
Body kick from Moicano. Exchange in close and both landed punches there. Hernandez with an inside leg kick again and punches to the body.
Solid body kick for Hernandez. Moicano in on a single leg attempt off a kick and Hernandez gets free from that. Moicano reaches for it again, but doesn’t commit.
Hernandez looks to strike and Moicano clinches up, marches him over to the cage and works for a takedown. He gets it, but Hernandez immediately gets back up.
Moicano continuing to battle in the clinch for another takedown. He tries to drag him down and doesn’t succeed the first time, but then does trip him nicely and settles on top in half-guard.
Moicano looking to pass guard and Hernandez scrambles, but can’t get back upright. He does successfully manage to get up soon after though and lands an elbow before backing away.
Back to striking they go. Both look to land the jab. Then Hernandez connects with a body kick. He lands another. Another kick from him.
Hernandez reaching for a leg, but Moicano clinches up. They break apart quickly though. Hernandez marches forward and lands a right hand.
Heavy right hand from Moicano snaps Hernandez’s back up. Head kick attempt from Hernandez. Moicano whiffs on an uppercut.
Round Two:
Hernandez steps into an elbow but is knocked off-balance in the process. Body kick from Moicano. Hernandez in close landing a few short punches and Moicano lands a knee to the body.
Moicano with a crisp uppercut and hook. Moicano with a flurry of hard punches that backs Hernandez up and then lands a big knee to the body that leaves his opponent desperately trying to drop for a takedown.
Moicano is quickly able to get to his back on the mat and sinks in a rear-naked choke that soon forces Hernandez to tap out at 1.23mins of the first round.
