Robbie Lawler has been forced to pull out of his upcoming fight against Mike Perry at UFC 255 on November 21st after picking up an injury.
Perry was the first to break the news on Twitter, though at this stage it’s not clear what the extent of Lawler’s injury is or when he might be able to return to action.
‘Platinum’s’ post suggests that he intends to still fight on the card though and he’s even got a potential opponent in mind.
“So @Ruthless_RL pulled out due to an injury. Looking for a replacement I asked for @KChimaev and we can do it at middleweight @ufc @FirstRoundMgmt,” Perry wrote on Twitter.
However, Chimaev already has a fight booked against Leon Edwards at welterweight at UFC Fight Night 186 on December 19th, and though Chimaev has a habit of trying to line up more than one fight at a time, it makes little sense to fight an unranked opponent like Perry and risk missing out on a match-up with a leading contender like ‘Rocky’ that could propel him firmly into title contention.
It shouldn’t be too hard for the UFC to rustle up another fighter willing to take on Perry though with a few weeks to go until fight night in Las Vegas.
