Robbie Lawler vs. Santiago Ponzinibbio Planned For UFC 245

A welterweight fight between former champion Robbie Lawler and Santiago Ponzinibbio is believed to be in the works for UFC 245 in Las Vegas on December 14th.

Lawler will come into the fight having suffered three losses in a row for the first time in his career.

That included a loss to former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos, followed up by a somewhat controversial first round submission loss to Ben Askren in his promotional debut and then being dominated by Colby Covington in a five-rounder in August.

Lawler has in fact only won one fight against Donald Cerrone since losing the 170lb title to Tyron Woodley by KO back in 2016 and has now slipped down to No.13 in the divisional rankings.

As for Ponzinibbio, he’s currently riding a seven-fight winning streak in the division that’s seen him rise up to No.8 on the welterweight ladder.

Along the way he’s picked up wins over the likes of Court McGee, Nordine Taleb, Gunnar Nelson, Mike Perry and most recently a knockout victory over Neil Magny in his native Argentina.

While not official yet, Lawler vs. Ponzinibbio looks like joining at UFC 245 card that will also feature a women’s bantamweight title fight between Amanda Nunes and Germaine de Randamie, though a main event for the show has not yet been confirmed.
