Robert Whittaker Vs Yoel Romero II Earmarked For UFC 225

A middleweight title rematch between current champion Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero is believed to be in the works for UFC 225 on June 9th in Chicago.

The match-up isn’t official yet, but the promotion have confirmed to ESPN that they are in the process of putting it together.

Whittaker had originally been set to defend his belt for the first time against Luke Rockhold at UFC 221 in February, but a number of injuries and ailments forced the champion out of the fight.

Instead, Rockhold fought Romero and suffered a third round TKO loss, though ‘The Soldier Of God’ missed out on the chance to claim the interim 185lb title after missing weight for the bout.

Thats now set up a fight between the two, but its not the first time they have fought as just a year ago Whittaker handed Romero his first loss in 10 UFC fights by unanimous decision.

That extended Whittaker’s unbeaten run to eight fights, with his other victims including the likes of Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza, Derek Brunson and Uriah Hall.

Whittaker Vs Romero II would likely headline UFC 225, which is also expected to feature Claudia Gadelha Vs Carla Esparza, Alistair Overeem Vs Curtis Blaydes and Joseph Benavidez Vs Sergio Pettis.
